The goal is to organize facet values according to the following hierarchy:
- City Cars
- Crossover SUVs
- Unpowered Boats
- Jet Aircraft
The following table shows which terms must be the generic and which ones must be specific to be able to create a hierarchy:

The first step is to define generic terms.Click on NEW TERM to enter the generic terms: Cars, Boats, and Aircraft. Enter the term Cars. Click on SAVE AND NEW to add Boats and Aircraft. Click on SAVE to save all added terms.
Generic terms are defined and displayed in the vocabulary.
The next step is to define specific terms for each generic term.
In the Vocabulary interface of the Back Office, select a blue arrow.
Click on the Cars term’s blue arrow in the subclass_hierarchy vocabulary, to be able to create specific terms for it.
The – currently empty – list of the terms defined under "Cars" term is displayed.
Click on NEW TERM and enter the term City Cars, as City Cars is a subclass of Cars.
- A synonym vocabulary to clean spelling inconsistencies
- A taxonomy vocabulary to get a hierarchical categorization
Repeat Steps 1 to 6 to define specific terms for Boats and Aircraft as follows:
- Boats → Unpowered Boats and Saiboats
- Aircraft → Balloons and Jet Aircraft
The vocabulary named subclass_hierarchy has nine terms: three generic terms having two specific terms each.
Click on PUBLISH to activate the vocabulary.
