Note: For more information about the application of variants, consult Author-It Knowledge Center - About Variants.
To generate a new variant of an Author-it object:
  1. Click the object you wish to apply a variant to.
  2. On the Author tab, click New:
    You can create and filter variants
    The Create Variant window is displayed.
  3. Select the variant value(s) you wish to apply to the new object.
    Values can be assigned to the new variant
  4. Click OK.

    A new version of the object is generated. Both versions of the object are linked.

    Note: The green tag indicates that the object is "primary", meaning that it is not varianted, but is linked to varianted versions.

    The yellow tag indicates that the object is a varianted version of another.

To apply variant values to an Author-it object:

  1. Click the object you wish to apply a variant to.
  2. On the Author tab, click Convert:
    You can create and filter variants

    The Convert to Variant window is displayed:

  3. Select the variant value(s) you wish to apply to the new object.
  4. Click OK.

    All selected variant values are now applied to the object.

    Note: The blue tag indicates that the object is "primary" but that variants has been applied to it.

To modify variant values applied to an Author-it object:

  1. Click the varianted object you wish to modify.
  2. On the Author tab, click Edit:
    You can modify objects

    The Edit Variant window is displayed:

  3. On the right panel, select the new variant value(s) you wish to apply to the object.
  4. On the left panel, select the variant value(s) you wish to remove from the object.
  5. Click OK.

    All modified variant values are now applied to the object.
