The Vocabularies application, accessible via the Back Office, offers the possibility to manage the vocabulary used in your documentation.

The Vocabularies application can be divided into the following key features:

  • Synonyms:

It consists of defining equivalences between terms, or synonyms, in order to find the right content more easily and quickly.
For example: You can define that "car" is strictly equivalent to "automobile". When you look for the term "car", the search engine will display the results containing "car" as well as documents containing "automobile".

Another way to make research easier is to match the words having the same grammatical form. This indexing method is called stemming. In this case, you do not have to worry about gender and number (singular or plural) anymore. This feature is integrated by default but a few terms may be missing and need to be added this way.
For example: Entering "file" or "files" in the search engine will return the same documents with both words.

  • Taxonomy:

The Vocabularies application can also define hierarchy between terms. It is called taxonomy. It enables autoposting: organizing terms in a hierarchy.
For example: You indicate "New York", "Los Angeles" and "Chicago" as specific terms relative to the generic term "United States". A query with the keyword "United States" will show the results containing "New York", but also those containing "Los Angeles" or "Chicago" (descendant autoposting). In return, a search with the keyword "New York" will not show the results linked with "United States" but only those containing "New York" (ascendant autoposting).

  • Thesaurus:

The Vocabularies application has a Thesaurus feature as well.
It incorporates the features described above and offers a few more like the support of multilingualism for the same vocabulary. A drop-down menu is available to the left of each term in order to define its language.
For example: A vocabulary can include many words from different declared languages with their respective synonyms.

    It also supports alternative spelling.
For example: Alternative spelling is used to find the same results if you search two words with two different spellings like "disc" or "disk". Or if you do not write the word correctly like "anarobic" or "anerobic" instead of "anaerobic".

SKOS Vocabularies made in RDF/XML format or in CSV format can be uploaded from the Vocabularies application.
