The default Apache configuration file is HTTP only. For obvious security reasons, it is recommended to generate a SSL certificate and modify the configuration of the web server to use it.

HTTPS allows Internet user to check the identity of a web site thanks to an authentication certificate. It guarantees the confidentiality and integrity of the data sent by the user to the web server.

For more information about HTTPS, see HTTPS on Wikipedia.
