The Microsoft-word connector supports control files that administrators can use to manage the metadata associated with each .docx file in the archive. See the control file documentation for more information.

The following example illustrates how to use a single control file to manage the metadata associated with three .docx files:

<?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?>
<controlFile>
    <resources>
        <resource lang="en-US">
            <filePath>doc1.docx</filePath>
            <originId>sample_docs::1</originId> <!-- specific Identifier -->
            <displayName>Title of the doc</displayName>
            <metas>
                <meta key="meta1">
                    <value>value1</value>
                </meta>
                <meta key="meta2">
                    <value>value2</value>
                </meta>
            </metas>
        </resource>
        <resource lang="en-US">
            <filePath>doc2.docx</filePath>
            <originId>sample_docs::2</originId>
            <displayName>Title of the second doc</displayName>
            <metas>
                <meta key="meta1">
                    <value>other_value1</value>
                </meta>
                <meta key="meta2">
                    <value>other_value2</value>
                </meta>
            </metas>
        </resource>
        <resource lang="en-US">
            <filePath>sub-dir/doc1.docx</filePath>
            <originId>sample_docs::3</originId>
            <displayName>Title of the third doc</displayName>
            <metas>
                <meta key="meta1">
                    <value>another_value1</value>
                </meta>
                <meta key="meta2">
                    <value>another_value2</value>
                </meta>
            </metas>
        </resource>
    </resources>
</controlFile>
Currently, it is only possible to upload control files for Word content synchronously. In other words, it is not yet possible to update the metadata associated with a document without uploading the document itself. This makes managing control files for Word content slightly different than for FTML content or UDs. Furthermore, it is impossible to delete Word content using a control file. Instead, an ADMIN or KHUB_ADMIN user must use the [Delete a map web service](https://doc.fluidtopics.com/access/sources/ait/topic?ait:code=20483&FT_Version=3.10&audience=public).
