AFS v7 relies on a cookie-based mechanism to store data about search sessions. Two complementary web cookies are stored in the domain hosting the serviceURI :
- A cookie named sessionId stores information about the search session. This cookie has a lifespan of 30 minutes (this value can be configured).
- A cookie named userId stores information about the user of the service. This cookie expires on December 31st, 2020 (this value can be configured).
When the cookie is not set, or when the cookie has expired, AFS v7 automatically generates a new cookie with a random value. The next calls to AFS v7 should be able to read the value, and use it to group the actions of the search session. sessionId is used to group queries within a search session, and userId is used to track the number of unique users of the search service.
