AFS Query Manager is in charge of receiving user queries from (Fast-)CGI, broadcasting them to associated agents, and monitoring the lifespan of search services. The Query Manager detects in real time the creation, deletion and the updates of services instances.
For each service instance, agents are automatically detected — zero setup is required. The Query Manager is in charge of starting needed agents for each service instance, and of monitoring these agents to ensure enough resources are available to process user queries.
If the search service is replicated on a cluster of servers, then each server will host a local Query Manager and local agents.
