JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight text-based open standard derived from the JavaScript programming language for representing simple data structures and associative arrays, called objects.

JSONP (JSON with Padding) is a complement to the base JSON data format making it possible to use JSON from a server other than the server hosting acp.

When the portal is hosted on a different host from acp servers, security restrictions forbid the use of JSON to exchange data between the browser of the user and the acp front end. JSONP allows this exchange by retrieving JSON via script tags.
