A service instance is an instance of a search service operating at a given status.

A search service with a serviceId set to 1 can have two instances at a time, one for stable and one for beta.It can be operated on the same hardware resources as a search service 2 with the rc status and a search service 3 with the archive status.

Two instances of the same service can operate on distinct reply databases, and/or configuration files.

The Back Office needs to associate a service in the BO with an actual AFS service with an operating status. It can also monitor a service available in AFS in a number of statuses. In the BO Administration screen, for a selected organization, a selected project, and a selected service, the service instances available are listed in the table in the INSTANCES column.

To get more information about an instance of a service, the Modify the Instance command is available for a selected instance.
