Either on a stand-alone implementation basis or within a more complex application suite, AFS is very easy to integrate because it is a web service queried with the HTTP protocol on the REST principle (GET or POST).
Users' queries are routed directly to AFS to generate complete replies used by the client application, or passed to a middleware (web portal, business application) in charge of collecting the data and launching the necessary processes.
The middleware scheme fits environments with high security constraints. It makes it possible to hide the search parameters and to strengthen the security strategy with the application's. However, for applications of portal type, web service calls of HTTP request type remains the easiest standard implementation mode.
